In the national context, an application for an abZ must be submitted before the DIBt can process the matter. Any modification, addition or extension to an existing approval also requires an application to be submitted.
An application for an abZ does not require a specific form. In addition to the name and address of the applicant, the application should contain a description of the item for which approval is sought, its intended use and the purpose of the application (a new approval, or an amendment/addition/extension of an existing approval). An application that is as precise and complete as possible accelerates the application procedure.
The DIBt can provide you with an application format. Its use is not compulsory, contrary to similar applications in the European context, but it is helpful to the DIBt and the manufacturer as it compiles all the information required for the application.
Take particular care to see that your documents are complete and correct before submission to the DIBt.
