Coatings (including inner coatings) and linings are used for creating liquid-tight sealings for collecting trays, collecting rooms and surfaces in storage and filling facilities for manure, slurry and silage effluent (MSS facilities) and biogas storage and filling facilities (biogas SF facilities). The sealing ensures that no substances hazardous to water can escape into nearby bodies of water from storage and filling facilities for manure, slurry and silage effluent or biogas storage and filling facilities. It thus makes an important contribution to facility-based water protection.

Regulatory framework

Coatings (including inner coatings) and linings in MSS and biogas SF facilities fall under the Ordinance on the determination of the suitability of construction products and construction techniques under water law by means of verifications in accordance with the Building Codes of the federal states (WasBauPVO) and under the Ordinance on facilities for handling substances hazardous to water (AwSV).

DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ) and/or general construction technique permits (aBG) for these products and construction techniques, confirming that both the construction and the water law requirements have been met.

The products and construction techniques are thus deemed to be suitable for biogas SF facilities in accordance with Section 63 of the Water Resources Act (WHG). The construction products and construction techniques may also be used or applied in MSS facilities in accordance with Annex 7 of the AwSV.
