Fire-resistant walls, ceilings and roofs assembled from sandwich panels in accordance with DIN EN 14509

The construction techniques described here include fire-resistant walls, ceilings or roofs assembled from self-supporting sandwich panels in accordance with DIN EN 14509, including joint seals and fasteners. The sandwich panels can be arranged lengthwise or widthwise.

Regulatory framework

There are no conclusive technical rules for determining the fire resistance of components (construction techniques) assembled from sandwich panels in accordance with DIN EN 14509.

DIBt grants general construction technique permits (aBG) for this application of sandwich panels as part of a construction technique (e.g. to assemble a wall, ceiling or floor).

Fire-resistance shall be tested and classified in accordance with DIN 4102-2. Testing in accordance with

  • DIN EN 1364-1 for walls or
  • DIN EN 1365-2 for ceilings and roofs

is also admissible.

MVV TB, B 2.2.1.4, Annex B 2.2.1/5

The following information and drawings are required for processing the construction technique permit:

- originals or certified copies of the test reports,

- technical data sheets for the core insulation material,

- specification of the standards, verification of fitness for use and/or application (e.g. national technical approval/general construction technique permit) or European Technical Assessments (ETAs) for all fasteners used,

- verifications of fitness for use for the joint sealing tapes or intumescent materials or

- when products bearing the CE marking are used, the related declaration of performance and information accompanying the CE marking,

- overview and detail drawings (e.g. for the wall, floor and ceiling connections, joints) including dimensions, labelling or legends, preferably as a PDF file, for the annexes to the construction technique permit.

National procedure

A national technical approval (abZ) and/or oder general construction technique permit (aBG) is granted upon application (see Model Building Code (MBO), Sections 16a(2) and18(2) and (4)). This also applies to amendments and supplements to, or renewals of existing approvals and/or construction technique permits.

No formal requirements apply. The following information is needed: name and address of the applicant, description of the product and/or construction technique and its field of use or application, type of decision required (new decision, amendment or supplement to, or renewal of, an existing decision).
