Masonry mortar and bonding agents
Masonry mortar or bonding agents serve to produce masonry from masonry units. In most cases, masonry mortars are covered by EN 998-2.
Regulatory framework
The regulatory requirements relate primarily to the masonry. Depending on the application area, requirements relating to stability, health and environmental protection, thermal and sound insulation and/or fire safety may apply to the masonry.
For the design and execution of masonry (construction technique) and accordingly also for the masonry mortar as a component of this construction technique, the Technical Building Rules apply; cf. MVV TB , no. A 1.2.6.1.
DIBt grants general construction technique permits (aBG) in cases in which the masonry mortar significantly deviates from the use conditions specified in DIN 20000-412.
For mortar and bonding agents which are not (fully) covered by the harmonised standards, DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ). European Technical Assessments (ETAs) can also be issued for these products. The design and execution of masonry comprising non-standard mortar is non-regulated. DIBt grants general construction technique permits (aBG) for these applications.
National procedure
A national technical approval (abZ) and/or oder general construction technique permit (aBG) is granted upon application (see Model Building Code (MBO), Sections 16a(2) and18(2) and (4)). This also applies to amendments and supplements to, or renewals of existing approvals and/or construction technique permits.
No formal requirements apply. The following information is needed: name and address of the applicant, description of the product and/or construction technique and its field of use or application, type of decision required (new decision, amendment or supplement to, or renewal of, an existing decision).
