Prestressing steel bar
Prestressing steel bars are used in various prestressing systems for concrete structures.
Prestressing steel bars are manufactured in hot rolling mills (by quenching, cold-drawing or additional tempering, alone or in combination) in straight lengths. The bar surface can be smooth, ribbed or threaded.
Regulatory framework
DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ) for prestressing steel bar.
Please also refer to the applicable design and execution rules, cf., in particular, MVV TB, Part A 1.
With regard to the design and execution of structural works, please note that DIN EN 1992-1-1:2011-01 in conjunction with DIN EN 1992-1-1/NA:2013-04 does not contain conclusive technical rules for the use of prestressing steel bar as a tendon in prestressing systems. In cases which are relevant from a regulatory point of view, a construction technique permit (aBG) is generally required. DIBt grants general construction technique permits upon request.
The use of prestressing steel bar for pre-tensioning of precast elements (direct bonding) at the factory is not permitted.

For a first assessment, please send us the following information:
- Description of the construction product and its intended field of use
- e.g. material, configuration, number of sizes, variants, dimensions
- e.g. use in walls, ceilings, interior construction, building services
- Description of the construction technique and its field of application
- e.g. design of walls, ceilings, elements, etc., and interaction of components
- e.g. application in foundation engineering, reinforced concrete construction, building insulation; as load-bearing or non-load-bearing component; under static and quasi-static loading; fire exposure; other environmental exposures
- Information regarding impact on regulatory concerns
- in particular structural integrity, fire protection, health and environment protection, sound insulation as well as thermal performance
- Explanation of need for an abZ/aBG
- Do you significantly deviate from the Technical Building Rules?
- Or do neither Technical Building Rules nor generally recognised technical rules exist?
