Soil reinforcement systems

Soil reinforcement systems serve to secure escarpments. Steel wire meshes and grids, steel strips and geotextiles are used as reinforcing elements. They act via friction and interlocking with the surrounding soil. The stability, e.g. of embankment structures, is increased through improved introduction of tensile forces into the soil.

Regulatory framework

Geotextiles bearing the CE marking in accordance with EN 13251 with the performance characteristics required for the function 'reinforcement' can be used for soil reinforcement systems.

The design and execution can be carried out in accordance with the 'Recommendations for Design and Analysis of Earth Structures Using Geosynthetic Reinforcements (EBGEO)'.
