Construction products for smoke control and extraction
Fire- or temperature-resistant smoke extraction ducts and powered smoke exhaust ventilators are part of powered smoke control systems and serve to discharge smoke from the building in case of fire. For (CE-marked) powered smoke exhaust ventilators, a differentiation is made between ventilators installed in the room from which the smoke is to be extracted and those installed on the roof outside the building.
Various construction products, e.g. control units, are used to discharge smoke from lift shafts in case of fire.
Regulatory framework
DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ)/general construction technique permits (aBG) for large-scale smoke extraction ducts as well as national technical approvals for construction products for smoke control in lift shafts.
DIBt also grants general construction technique permits for the installation of powered smoke exhaust ventilators in buildings or on rooftops (MVV TB 2020/1, A 2.2.1.16; Annex 14, Section 7.5.1).

National procedure
A national technical approval (abZ) and/or oder general construction technique permit (aBG) is granted upon application (see Model Building Code (MBO), Sections 16a(2) and18(2) and (4)). This also applies to amendments and supplements to, or renewals of existing approvals and/or construction technique permits.
No formal requirements apply. The following information is needed: name and address of the applicant, description of the product and/or construction technique and its field of use or application, type of decision required (new decision, amendment or supplement to, or renewal of, an existing decision).
