External thermal insulation composite systems, or ETICS for short, are multi-layer systems used to insulate the external wall of a building. ETICS generally consist of insulation boards bonded to the substrate using adhesive mortar and, if required, additionally mechanically fixed (using anchors, profiles etc.) and a rendering system comprised of a reinforced base coat and a decorative finishing coat.

If CE-marked external thermal insulation composite systems are used, it must in particular be ensured that the national requirements for construction works, e.g. pertaining to fire safety and stability, are met.

Regulatory framework

In this work area, DIBt issues European Technical Assessments (ETA) and grants general construction technique permits (aBG).

Note: For products not covered by Annex 11 of the MVV TB, a general construction technique permit is usually required for the design and execution. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Note: The lists below may still include approvals for a construction technique, also called 'application approvals'. As a result of the revision of the Model Building Code (MBO) in 2016 followed by the revision of the applicable Building Codes of the federal states (LBO), these are successively being replaced by construction technique permits or will expire.
