Limit switches
Limit switches are safety devices within the meaning of water legislation, installed in tank vehicles and acting together with overfill prevention devices to interrupt the filling operation before the maximum permitted filling level in the tank has been reached. Limits switches are special types of overfill prevention devices. They are primarily installed in heating oil and fuel tanks.
Regulatory framework
DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ) for limit switches not covered by the harmonised standard DIN EN 13616, usually in combination with a general construction technique permit (aBG) for the application.
The national technical approvals/general construction technique permits for these construction products and techniques confirm that both the construction and the water law requirements have been met. The products and construction techniques are thus deemed to be suitable in accordance with Section 63 of the Water Resources Act (WHG).
National procedure
A national technical approval (abZ) and/or oder general construction technique permit (aBG) is granted upon application (see Model Building Code (MBO), Sections 16a(2) and18(2) and (4)). This also applies to amendments and supplements to, or renewals of existing approvals and/or construction technique permits.
No formal requirements apply. The following information is needed: name and address of the applicant, description of the product and/or construction technique and its field of use or application, type of decision required (new decision, amendment or supplement to, or renewal of, an existing decision).
