Non-combustible building materials ensure that, when exposed to fire – especially an advanced or fully developed fire – the relevant parts of the structural works do not contribute to the fire.

Regulatory framework

Classification of the reaction-to-fire of construction products is relevant to ensure fulfilment of the regulatory safety levels, cf. Model Building Code (MBO), Sections 3 and 14.

DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ) for the reaction-to-fire of building materials

• for which neither Technical Building Rules nor generally recognised technical rules exist or
• which significantly deviate from the applicable Technical Building Rules and which
• are not subject to a national technical test certificate (abP) in accordance with the Technical Building Rules, cf. MVV TB, Section C 3, no. C 3.2 or C 3.4.

DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ) for the reaction-to-fire of construction techniques

• which significantly deviate from the applicable Technical Building Rules or for which there are no generally recognised technical rules.

As a result of the implementation of the judgement of the European Court of Justice of 1 October 2014 in case C-100/13, national technical approvals are no longer granted for products if they bear the CE marking on the basis of the Construction Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 305/2011). The products may not be marked with the national conformity mark. Approvals for which the period of validity has not yet expired are listed below. They can be used on a voluntary basis to prove fulfilment of the regulatory requirements.
